In 2010, a recent business graduate tries to resolve a constant bottleneck in the printing department of the family business. The two-part case discusses the issues of identifying the need for relevant information and then discusses the staff’s resistance to change and how these objections were handled and overcome. <br><br>This pair of cases seeks to identify the pressures faced by small businesses, along with the task of managing the various stakeholders, including the father-owner and the personnel on the factory shop floor.

This case series can be used as an introduction to information technology in a family-managed business/entrepreneurial environment. <br><br>The objective here was to help focus the participant’s minds to the question of what information is needed for solving a simple problem and how the flow of information can help solve a process bottleneck. In particular, enabling a system for this flow of information need not come at a very high cost. <br><br>A simple four-person scenario is taken to help participants focus on the key issues, and the learning can be transferred for use in any environment.<br><br>The case can also be used in organizational behaviour for illustrating managing change in entrepreneurial firms or in operations management for identifying bottlenecks in manufacturing organizations.
