This exercise presents common size financial information, from which students identify seven anonymized major US companies in the following business areas: railway services, meat product processor, telecommunications service provider, technology consulting provider, aerospace engineering, natural resources mining, and retail drug and convenience store. Students identify the companies using their skills in interpreting financial statement data.
學習目標
This exercise can be used in intermediate courses/modules at the undergraduate and graduate level. To ensure maximum effectiveness of this exercise, students should be able to calculate financial ratios and understand inputs to the ratio calculations and their implications. Students should have a basic understanding of generic company financial structure and be able to identify unique financial structure based on the nature of the industry in which the company operates. After working through the exercise and assignment questions, students will better understand<ul><li>financial ratios and balance sheet composition of companies in distinct industries;</li><li>the inputs to basic financial ratios; and</li><li>the financial information of prominent American companies.</li></ul>
