學習目標
This role-play case is suitable for undergraduate or graduate courses in business law, environmental law, environmental studies, business ethics, and corporate social responsibility. This is a decision case: it invites students to step into the shoes of key decision-makers in the face of multi-layered conflicts — conflicts in scientific information, public perception, legal processes, and ethical perspectives — and to make decisions of great consequence. The primary focus of this case is on ethics within a business law context. The six supplemental role-play cases take the perspectives of Alaska’s U.S. Senator, the chairman of the Bristol Bay Native Association, Northern Dynasty, Rio Tinto, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the Wild Salmon Center. Students who complete this case will be able to:

Identify legal issues in the regulatory environment of business.

Assess corporate and partnership duties.

Describe competing interests related to the development of the Pebble Mine.

Contrast ethical implications of different decisions.

Analyze the situation and develop and support one best course of action.
