IPC Corporation, Singapore

內容大綱
The CEO of a Singapore-based computer company, with successful operations in Europe and Asia, was contemplating whether to pursue growth opportunities in the United States. The company had to decide between developing its own subsidiary, acquiring a small mail-order company based in Austin, Texas, or not entering the U.S. market at this time. If the acquisition option was pursued, there were challenges regarding fixing an appropriate value for the company, as well as integrating the American subsidiary into its own global network.
學習目標
In this case, students take the role of the CEO of the company and have to decide whether the company should enter the North American market, and whether it should be done by greenfield or acquisition. The case also provides ample opportunity to deal with the planning process for post-acquisition integration. Subsequently, the case gives an overview of the personal computer industry with specific channel information in North America, and highlights two possible options for entry. The case can be used to teach the internationalization process of a firm in an International Management course.
