DORD - Expanding Health Services in Rural Bihar

內容大綱
Daudnagar Organization for Rural Development (DORD) was determining how to expand its successful eye-care hospital into reproductive and child health services. The case lays out the financial and organizational risks and asks the student to evaluate the possibility of expansion given the economic and governmental constraints in one of the poorest parts of India.
學習目標
This case is intended to familiarize students with the strategic decisions facing non-profit organizations, especially in emerging markets and very poor parts of the world. Expansion always carries risks, and these could be the centre of the case. Additionally, students should be asked to consider the less familiar problems of poor to non-existent infrastructure, lack of skilled personnel, and governmental shortcomings that are part of many third-world environments. Finally, students could be tasked with determining the best way to provide a critically needed service (maternal and infant mortality are both high in Bihar) in the face of very limited resources.
