Fleetway Bowling Centre
The owner/operator of Fleetway Bowling Centre in London, Ontario, is faced with making a decision on whether to introduce a new computerized software program that could combine bowling with the game of bingo. If he decides to go ahead with Bingo-Bowling, he needs to develop a complete marketing plan to introduce this game to the public. In particular, he must decide whom to target (league/recreational bowlers), what media to choose and whether this opportunity would be financially attractive for Fleetway. Lastly, he wondered how to market the game to a group with weak representation at Fleetway: The University of Western Ontario student market. -
Ugly Dog Pizza Company
Melissa Simpson, a loan officer at the St. Thomas Alliance Trust Company, has to decide about a $100,000 loan request for a new restaurant, The Ugly Dog Pizza Company. The operators, Pete Bates and John Symonds, have some experience in food management, but neither of them has ever started and operated a restaurant. Other factors contributing to her difficult decision include minimal collateral coverage, a recent approval from the federal government for a business loan and a fiercely competitive restaurant marketplace. -
Carl Jones (A)

RAMPAC Distributors
An entrepreneurial university student found himself contemplating several decisions that could drastically alter the operations of his summer business distributing household paper products and cleaning supplies in Montreal. These decisions included three ways to expand (enlarge the salesforce, target a new market and pursue a franchise program), and three ways to change the nature of the venture (launch an environmental line, distribute non-perishable foods and reduce delivery quantities). Underlying all of these was the possibility of selling the business and pursuing an opportunity with a multi-national corporation. Students have to evaluate the current strategy and operations and assess the viability of the proposed alternatives. -
Blackshop Bistro
The son of the founder and owner of Blackshop Bistro (and an employee) had to decide how to respond to his father's suggestion that the family business relocate to a new commercial building nearby. The fine-dining restaurant had enjoyed great success; however, to achieve its growth objectives and offer the founder's sons an opportunity, the business must seek alternatives to expand sales. Expansion may ultimately threaten the Bistro's current strategy and target market. In addition, the move would require significant financial, marketing, and operational changes.
