學習目標
This case can be used in several different ways. First, the case can be used to review the literature on short-term gains for investing in firms making acquisitions. The fact that HudBay has recently failed in an acquisition attempt adds intrigue to this teaching strategy. Although the focus of the case should be on the assessment of an investment in HudBay, instructors can also use this case to instead focus on HudBay’s acquisition of Norsemont. Is it a good acquisition? Will it add value? Why was the deal structured as a mixed cash/share offer? The case provides students with the opportunity to assess the merits of an acquisition, learn about the mining industry and expand on their understanding of firm valuation.
