Greg Linton and Tightline Anchor Inc. – Managing Growth

In April 2023, Greg Linton, the founder and chief executive officer of Tightline Anchor Inc., a start-up that sells innovative anchors to the personal watercraft industry, was preparing for growth. Linton and his team were having success with sales but they could see multiple opportunities ahead. This case explores growth decision-making challenges for early-stage ventures and competitive positioning for new products. In addition, the case explores the interesting example of military entrepreneurs and the challenges and opportunities for service personnel.

This case would be appropriate as an introduction to entrepreneurship in a first-year business course and as part of the growth section of an undergraduate small business or entrepreneurship course. After working through the case and the assignment questions, students should be able to:<ul><li>Analyze the growth challenges and opportunities faced by early-stage ventures.</li><li>Conduct business modelling for early-stage ventures that are still developing their go-to-market strategy and develop evidence-based recommendations.</li><li>Describe and analyze the competitive positioning dynamics for a product company in the sports and recreation industry.</li><li>Assess the challenges and opportunities of military personnel regarding entrepreneurship.</li></ul>
