This case examines retirement and pension-related decisions from a financial perspective, using the example of a university professor, Dr. Carl Pettigrew. Dr. Pettigrew has a comprehensive pension plan through his employer, but needs to take into consideration his obligations to his ex-spouse and his existing life insurance policy. Due to all of the different elements under consideration, the case represents a moderately complex situation for the pension holder.
